A Blue Christmas

Posted by Justin

Since you're likely drunk as shit on eggnog and festive cocktails, now is a great time to listen to Blue Oyster Cult. Read on for your holiday fill of 70's head-bobbing rock!

Cities On Flame - 1972 - 4:02

You'd think it would be Cities In Flame, but Cities On Flame is way heavier. It's, like, cities built on top of flames entirely out of rock and roll man. Heavy.

Veteran Of The Psychic Wars - 1981 - 4:50

A veteran of a thousand psychic wars? Holy shit, it sort of makes those guys bitching about a third tour in Iraq sound like pussies. Or maybe it's about a guy or girl that's been married 1000 times. Either way, Heavy.

The Whole Second Side of Fire Of Unknown Origin

I always recommend this to people who are struggling to get a handle on the Blue Oyster Cult oeuvre. The first, second, and fourth songs are incredible. The third is still pretty good by BOC standards, but not really very rad overall.

Vengeance (The Pact) - 1981 - 4:41

When Tarna makes an ageless pact to defend defenseless people, she keeps it. Heavy

After Dark - 1981 - 4:25

'There's no turnin' back now, My fate is traced in blood'. Whoah, Heavy.

Joan Crawford - 1972 - 4:54

It's the low point of the album, but it does a great job of giving you a little break before the next song shows up and kicks your brain right in the nuts. Not heavy.

Don't Turn Your Back - 1981 - 4:07

Don't turn your back on intuition? Heavy.

Godzilla - 1982 - 7:45

The live version from the Extraterrestrial Live LP. Complete with long quasi-political nuclear weapon rant intro. Heavy.

Hot Rails To Hell - 1975 - 5:29

The train that takes you to hell is apparently a New York subway. HEAVY!

If Christmas is your thing, have a Blue one.
